There are many companies that sell cell phones and wireless plans.  These are generally large, well known corporations, but there are many small providers as well.

AT&T is a very well known provider across the United States.  Their focus is primarily major cities, and AT&T is famous for their 3G network service.  AT&T has received a lot of press coverage and publicity recently because they are the wireless network provider for Apple’s iPhone.

Verizon is another large wireless provider.  The company focuses on the United States as a whole, and their coverage is impressive in both cities and rural areas.  Verizon’s network is noted for both its reliability and widespread range of coverage.  I personally have a cell phone through Verizon Wireless, and I have been very happy with it.
